Proofreading is done at the final stages of development, when a document is being sent for printing, submitted for moderation (e.g. dissertations or theses), or submitted to a publisher, competition, etc.
It is a check on the spelling, grammar, punctuation and layout. If an organisation has a house style, it also includes ensuring consistency with this style. It includes checking the formatting of tables, illustrations, references and indexes.
I proofread to BSI 2005 standard mark-up symbols, on paper, in Word or pdf.
If your work needs structural or stylistic changes, you may need a developmental edit or copy-edit before you have your work proofread.
Please contact me to discuss your requirements and for a free, no obligation quote. I also offer sample page / chapter proofs.
Jo helped to proofread my final masters dissertation project. She was great with communication and working around my deadline. When receiving my work that she had proofread, I knew exactly what had been changed as she ensured that there were lots of comments on the document, which were really easy to understand. She also sent a separate word document explaining what had been done, and any areas that I may need to look at again. Overall, Jo really helped with my grammar and referencing within my work. If I ever fancy doing a PhD, then I would definitely use her services again!
